Robert Korneluk

Robert G. Korneluk is Professor, Departments of Pediatrics and Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa. He is also the scientific director of the Apoptosis Research Centre at CHEO and a Distinguished Professor of the University of Ottawa. Dr. Korneluk is an International Research Scholar of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and has received the prestigious McLaughlin Medal from the Society. Dr. Korneluk is interested in the modulation of cell apoptosis, and with his team, Korneluk is investigating the role of the Inhibitor of Apoptosis (IAP) gene family in apoptosis, in conjunction with IAPs’ role in the progression of cancer. They aim to develop useful small molecule inhibitors of IAP for cancer therapies. On the other hand, they are also investigating the IAPs function involved in myogenesis and muscle repair in wasting syndromes such as muscular dystrophy, atrophy and cancer-induced cachexia.
