Who can nominate a person for Nobel Prize?

As the 2020 Nobel Prize Announcements are coming, there are more news and topics surrounding the Nobel Prize. BBC News  reported on 9 September 2020 that a Norwegian politician has put US President Donald Trump’s name forward for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize, citing the president's role in the recent peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

Though getting a nomination doesn’t mean Mr. Trump will win the prize –We won’t know the result before the 2021 Nobel Prize announcements- this news still got a lot of attention. This news also makes me want to figure out an important question “who can nominate a person for a Nobel Prize?”

Here are the facts I found from the nobelprize.org and the internet.

-Each year, thousands of members of academies, university professors, scientists, previous Nobel Laureates and members of parliamentary assemblies and others, are asked to submit candidates for the Nobel Prizes for the coming year. These nominators are chosen in such a way that as many countries and universities as possible are represented over time.

-After receiving all nominations, the Nobel Committees of the four prize awarding institutions are responsible for the selection of the candidates.

-The names of the nominees and other information about the nominations cannot be revealed until 50 years later.

-No one can nominate herself or himself.

Take the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine as an example.

The Nobel Committee sends confidential invitation letters to persons who are competent and qualified to nominate candidates for the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Normally, there are over 3000 personal confidential invitations sent out to qualified nominators.
