What is synthetic biology?

Synthetic biology is a multidisciplinary area of research that seeks to create novel biological parts, devices, and systems, or to redesign systems that are already found in nature.

It draws ideas from engineering, biology, bioinformatics, mathematics, chemistry, and biotechnology.

This emerging field of science has led to high-value applications such as better human therapeutics, industrial products, agriculture, animal sciences, and protein products.

Synthetic biology has driven many advances in the field of medicine and it continues to be an area of innovation as we continue to learn about biological changes.

Future directions with synthetic biology could assist in developing cancer immunotherapy, better diagnostics, and drug synthesis.
