When I started looking for my next car, I focused on three models that balance reliability, comfort, and running costs: the Toyota Corolla, the Mazda 3, and the Honda Civic. I wanted something practical for daily driving but still enjoyable on longer trips, with good fuel efficiency and low maintenance costs.
The first option was the Toyota Corolla (2024, 1.8L hybrid version). It produces around 138 hp combined and is known for extreme reliability and fuel economy, averaging about 4.5–5.0 L/100 km. What I liked most was how stress-free it felt - smooth driving, simple interior, and very low running costs. However, it felt a bit too “safe” and not very engaging. Price range was around $24,000-$26,000 depending on trim.
The second car was the Mazda 3 (2.0L petrol, 150 hp). This one stood out immediately because of its design and driving feel. The steering was sharper, the suspension more responsive, and the interior felt more premium than expected in this class. It also has better sound insulation compared to the Corolla. The downside was slightly higher fuel consumption and less rear passenger space. Price was around $26,000-$28,000.
The third option was the Honda Civic (1.5L turbo, 180 hp). This was clearly the most balanced and enjoyable car to drive. It had strong acceleration, excellent road stability, and a very modern interior with a digital dashboard. It also felt more spacious and practical than the Mazda. The only issue was the price - around $29,000-$32,000 depending on options - which pushed it beyond my planned budget.
In the end, the Honda Civic was the car I truly wanted. I seriously considered using a car loan to cover the difference because my savings were not quite enough at the time. After thinking it through, I decided to go ahead and finance the gap, which allowed me to get the car I actually preferred while still staying within a comfortable financial plan. I’m very satisfied with the choice and happy I didn’t compromise on the model I really liked.
