Totally get where you're coming from. I used to work at a local shop near Stearns Wharf, and it was a balancing act—business boomed with tourists, but rent kept going up too. One thing that helped us was getting listed in the santa barbara business directory, which brought in more locals. I think it’s more about managing growth smartly than just stopping it completely.

A few weeks ago, I was walking through the Presidio area and noticed a new boutique hotel going up where a little art gallery used to be. Weird mix of progress and loss.
I live near the waterfront, and honestly, the amount of new hotels and short-term rentals popping up lately is wild. Traffic has gotten noticeably worse, especially on weekends, and it’s getting harder to find parking near our own place. I get that tourism helps the economy, but at what point do we say “enough” and protect what makes this place feel like home? Curious how others see it.
