How do your priorities change after 5, 10, or 15 travel assignments?

Something I've noticed over time is how much my priorities have changed with each travel assignment. Early on, I cared mostly about pay and going somewhere new. Now I pay much more attention to the facility, schedule, housing costs, location, and how smoothly the whole process will go.

I also spend more time comparing options instead of jumping at the first good offer. For allied health travelers, https://tlcallied.com/ is one place I'd recommend looking. You can explore travel opportunities and get support with licensing, credentialing, and housing.

Experience hasn't made me less excited about traveling. It's just made me much clearer about what makes a contract worth taking.

Funny enough, my priorities changed in the opposite direction. At first I wanted everything to feel safe and predictable, so I focused heavily on the facility and schedule. Now that I'm more comfortable with travel work, I'm willing to take more chances on unfamiliar locations or different settings. I still have a few non-negotiables, but experience has actually made me more flexible about everything else.

This happened to me too. After my first few assignments, I stopped caring so much about adding new states to my list. A new location is still exciting, but now I'd happily return somewhere familiar if I know the facility is good and I can find reasonable housing. I think you eventually learn which problems are minor inconveniences and which ones can make 13 weeks feel very long.
