Area Agency on Aging

Totally get it — we went through the same thing with my grandma last year. She didn’t qualify for full Medicaid, but there were other options we didn’t know about at first, like the OPTIONS Program through the Area Agency on Aging. It helped cover part of the costs while we figured out a longer-term plan. There’s actually a great breakdown of options and eligibility on this site I found — here’s the How to Pay for Home Care in Pennsylvania  if you want to check it out.

I used to live next door to an older couple who had a helper come by a few times a week. Honestly, it made a huge difference — not just for them, but for their daughter too. She looked way less stressed once she wasn’t doing everything alone. Sometimes people forget how much strain caregiving puts on the whole family, not just the person receiving the care.

My dad’s been needing more help around the house lately — not quite ready for assisted living, but definitely needs someone checking in daily. I’ve been handling most of it, but with my work schedule, it’s getting hard to keep up. We’re trying to figure out how to afford some professional home care in Pennsylvania, but everything feels overwhelming. Does anyone here have tips or experience navigating the costs or finding support programs?
