The team is tackling COVID-19 therapeutics by designing a mathematical model that will replicate action of a toehold switch, an mRNA sensing device that uses trigger RNA to activate or repress translation of downstream genes. In combination with a Virus-like Particle System, the system will use specific targeting for cells expressing the ACE2 receptor and inhibit the viral replication cycle. The team has also designed synthetic biology games to create public awareness on genetically modified organisms.
