Morgan Freney

I’m a PhD student working on developing vaccines and therapeutics against mosquito transmitted viruses (West Nile virus, Japanese encephalitis, St. Louis encephalitis virus and many more). I have a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, majoring in Molecular Microbiology. I did my honours research project on developing and testing an Ebola vaccine. I then completed 2 years of research in the same Virology lab studying viral pathogenesis- that is, introducing mutations and studying the effect, looking at how the virus interacts with host cells and in mosquitos to replicate itself and transmit to humans.

Emerging viruses: Usutu virus ("oo-soo-too")A fun name to say, also an interesting virus- Usutu virus was discovered in Africa in 1959 but has only ever caused 2 human infections there. The virus like other related flaviviruses (Zika, Dengue, West Nile virus) that I have ...Learn More
