Team Description
We are Estonia_TUIT, the first and the only, Estonian iGEM team from the University of Tartu. All members of our team are young talented people from different corners of the world interested in the fields of synthetic biology, genetic engineering and IT. Since joining the iGEM community in 2017, Estonia TUIT team has been awarded two silver and one gold medals. During the 2018 iGem season in the USA, we had a chance to meet Estonian president Kersti Kaljulaid.
As the use of eco-friendly and renewable energy sources has become essential worldwide, this year in SPARKLE we are attempting to improve lipid production in yeast by integrating the light-harvesting properties of semiconductors with the synthetic potential of living cells.
